拒绝解释的秋月;

The Market
By Meng Wei

Homogenized gazes,
papery digital codes,
heads of greens shipping their youth to dawn—
supplies from pre-fed greenhouses,
provisions for the trenches inside the skull,
all neatly stacked.

The butcher's blade is quicker than my tongue,
one stroke lays open snow-white fat,
like an autumn moon gouged from winter's core,
refusing explanation;
and the weight, they also refuse to explain.

"Can't go wrong."—a syllable from the next stall convicts the digital code.
A beep,
that one sound
exchanges all the innocent weight of my day—
no more, no less,
exactly equal to:
after I scan myself,
the weight of that snow-white fish maw
in the trash bin.

A Poem for My Daughter

English version:

 A Poem for My Daughter
By Meng Wei

My poem, in the fields, let an egret carry it in its beak,
gently tuck it into the creek where groupers play.
My poem, in my daughter's song, let her sing it aloud,
in corners of the schoolyard, in the rhythm of her steps on the playground.
No more setting the autumn moon into verses,
if it must be hidden, hide it in the cracks between cooking oil, salt, and her schoolbag.
My poem lives in my eyes,
I use my body as its tripod, letting it gaze into the distance.
In the days to come,
every morning, with the time it takes to write a poem,
let the dawn that falls upon the dining table
give her light, for the whole day.
